Unico Power is a young company providing intelligent EV charging to hundreds of multi-unit buildings in North America. It is the leading provider of EV Charging for multi-unit buildings. It’s solutions are the most scalable and forward thinking.
The Problem
Unico Power’s success in the EV Charging market came with significant challenges. Taking its proprietary Intelligent EV Charging system and sub-contracting the installation to different companies caused errors due to miscommunications.
Unico Power’s small team could not afford to correct the installation mistakes each time on site. There needed to be a way to guarantee consistent installation across contractors.
Unico Power’s success in the EV Charging market came with significant challenges. Taking their proprietary Intelligent EV Charging system and sub-contracting the installation to a large heterogeneous group of companies caused problems.
With Unico Power’s small team, they could not afford the delays correct the installation mistakes each time on site. They needed a way to guarantee consistent installation across contractors.
The Problem:
Client Interview
JAGresults always begins video projects with an interview session, in order to build the correct foundation for the project ahead. I took extra care to understand the purpose and audience of the video, as they both play crucial roles in the creative direction of the video.
Gathering Media
When it comes to sourcing media for a video solution, JAGresults finds an option that works best for the client. In this case, the client opted to shoot some video themselves based on the storyboard and script. We found that static images are often easier to follow for a tutorial video, and that video clips are best used to explain instruction that requires specific motion.
As a client, sourcing your own media is a good way to keep the project scope within budget. For those looking to put out the highest quality video project, having JAGresults or one of its partners shoot the video is ideal.
Iterations
This stage can be the most time-consuming and budget-straining if not managed properly.
At JAGresults, we take the necessary planning steps to ensure that the video has the right direction from the beginning.
For this project, AI voice technology was utilized to allow easy and efficient changes to the narration script. This is exponentially more efficient than working with voice actors for this type of project, and allowed the client to make a moderate amount of changes within the scope of their time and budget.
The Solution
Storyboard and Scripting
The storyboard plays a key role in ensuring the video project is on the right track, giving a chance for large changes to be made within the original budget. In a tutorial video of this nature, the script is the most important aspect as it determines how well the information is delivered. I created a script that was precise and easy for the viewer to follow.
Present First Cut to End Users
Although it was important that the client be satisfied with the first cut, they must ensure that it will resonate with their intended viewer.
When creating video tutorials for a specific industry group, in this case electrical contractors, it's crucial that the language and practices align with that group. This is why I had my client seek feedback on the first cut from its existing electrical contractors. This brought the audience perspective we needed to make a few changes that would present better with this industry.
Final Cut
This project came out as a professional, precise and accurate tutorial for installing Unico Power's equipment.

Shortly after the video had been published, Unico Power's field technicians noticed installation errors to significantly decrease to about 1/10th of what they saw before. Since this video has been published Unico Power has added approximately NUMBER buildings.
