Somatic Exercise Education (Soma-X)
Soma-X, or Somatic Exercise Education, is a physical rehabilitation company run by Harley Preston out of Victoria, BC, Canada. Harley specializes in complete body transformations, helping clients with the most extreme levels of pain and injury become pain-free and mobile. Harley has been a one-man show for over a decade, and wanted to explore growing his business into something greater.
The Problem
Harley Preston, owner/operator of Soma-X has big dreams for growth. After speaking to him just once, it was clear that he had a distinct vision for Soma-X as more than just a physical therapy company. The next that was obvious - Harley's time was at it's limit. Between having a family and training the maximum amount of clients per week that time would allow, Harley needed a realistic plan for the growth of Soma-X.
JAGresults followed its core values to save our clients time and allow them to focus on what they do best - in this case Harley getting people out of pain. We built a precise strategic plan that changed the way Harley looks at business, giving him the exact sequential tools to pursue his vision of growth.
Client Interview
From the Initial Client Interview, JAGresults was able to identify:
Soma-X's current position in the market
Harley’s day-to-day efforts: fully maxed out for time serving clients
Harley’s plans for growth - he wanted to become a lifestyle brand and hire multiple trainers in order to help more people get out of pain.
New Strategy & Target Market
We transformed Harley’s large and ambitious dreams into a quantifiable statement, defining the scope and variables of the desired position in the market.
In this scenario, our client provided guidelines of the markets he wanted to expand into. JAGresults took those markets as a starting point, tested the viability of those groups, and then built three detailed customer profiles, with complete demographic information, even going as far to identify which postal codes these groups inhabit.
We then presented our client with a call to action to decide which of these markets to primarily pursue.

This is where the strategic plan really takes shape into actionable steps. We presented a detailed 4-phase plan consisting of: information gathering, building, testing & deployment. This gave our client a reality check on what it really takes to implement growth on the scale he was looking for.

Remember, most people get strategy wrong, strategy is an organization’s position in the market. JAGresults identified Soma-X’s position by establishing the basis of which it competes, which is customer intimacy.

JAGresults identified the 3 most direct competitors to Soma-X, scoring them on geographical reach, offering, staff, and competitive advantages. It was also important to note indirect competitors for information, such as first page google results for “how to fix back pain”

An updated website was one of the key platforms to administer the changes Harley was after. The approach we took was to break down each possible group that would use the website, define their intended purpose, whether they bring revenue, and the keys to succeeding in engaging these web users.
We used the insight from the user groups to influence the site layout.
All the information gathered from listening intently to the client and building the strategic plan was used to create a homepage mockup, including the types of content that would be on the website.
